What Does Whey Protein Do

An all too familiar question is, what does whey protein do? The answer is pretty simple, but is that all your looking for? I think the real question is what does it do and how does it do it? Well, that I can answer. I would like to provide you with an answer that doesn't involve using large words that most of can't understand. So if you're reading this, and you wrote that stuff on Wikipedia, bravo, we have no idea what you said.

The first thing we need to establish is that we have thousands of proteins that are unique inside our bodies. These proteins are the materials in every single cell that are structural and functional. Without the proteins in our muscles we wouldn't be able to move, much less fight off any infection that comes our way because our immune system would be shot.

Now that we have a base of what proteins are, we can safely say that they are very necessary parts of our bodies. From experience and study I can tell you that in order to repair muscle from being tore during a workout, you absolutely need protein. It is not simply one of those things that you can overlook when you head to the gym every day. It is constantly being used every day, all day, and without it, you could not survive.

Something that needs to be understood about the absorption of protein, is that without another basic need to survive, water, proteins will most likely be lost without digestion. Water helps move the proteins through your body just like to lubricates joints, and supports healthy hair and nails.

Back to our main question now, what does whey protein do? First, Whey specifically is a high protein liquid derived from milk during a cheese making process. When the milk is cooked at differing temperatures to seperate the whey from what will soon become cheese, the whey is moved into a seperate area. It then undergoes even more seperation from the water in the whey, which concentrates they protein infested whey.

They whey is then put through a machine that evaporates all the liquid from the solid creating a high in protein powder. This is then mixed in with other ingredients to give us the flavored Whey Protein Powder to make our shakes for an after workout recovery drink. We mix water or milk, or I've even seen the same flavored Gatorade mixed in with the powder for pre and post workout shakes, depending on the persons intensity of workouts.

Now that we know exactly what Whey is, where it comes from, and what protein does, we can officially say that Whey Protein is a shortcut to mass muscle gains. Do we absolutely need it? No, but there are plently of benefits that come with Whey Protein. And the makers of the Protein Powders have come a long way to help with the taste, mixability, and digestibility of these proteins.

"Does Whey Protein Work" will provide more information on results of Whey Protein and give some suggestions on specific brands that have shown better results than that of the ones you found at Wal-mart.
